Silicone joiners now available; simplifies air temp sensor installation.

When installing aftermarket engine management systems, such as Syvecs or Alcatek, and especially when a front-mount intercooler is used, it is best to add an air temperature sensor, wired back to the ECU.

Having seen all sorts of bodged installations, usually making use of epoxy resin and pot luck, we decided to invest in the tooling for some silicone joiners to do the job properly.

These are available now in 2 different sizes for £49.99+VAT – in black only for now until we gauge the level of interest.

  • 70mm-to-63mm (standard Subaru throttle body to smaller FMIC pipework such as Hybrids)
  • 70mm-to-76mm (standard Subaru throttle body to larger FMIC pipework such as APS or Hyperflow)

Both are 82mm long, and a 63mm-to-63mm coupler will be available soon.

They have an M10 boss moulded in, ready to accept most common air temperature sensors including, of course, the one we stock 🙂

EGT compression glands for stock Subaru up-pipe boss

We have taken delivery of M12x1.25 compression glands for our Inconel EGT probes. This allows the probe to be fitted to the boss in the Subaru up-pipe that is usually used for the “cat-on-fire” sensor (on models that have this sensor fitted).

EGT probes are available in 2 different lengths and with either the M12 gland, or the more usual 1/8″ NPT fitting.

2 week shutdown

As of now, we are closed for 2 weeks while we go on holiday. We will be open for business again on Wednesday 7th November.

If you decide to place any orders in the meantime, we regret that your order will not ship. We will of course despatch goods as soon as we can upon our return.

New sensors now available – EGT, 4-bar MAP, high quality oil/fuel pressure.

We have added some new UK-manufactured sensors to our ever-growing list of parts, all complete with cables.

  • Inconel EGT probe, with 3mm enclosed tip, with 2m metal-braided PTFE cable terminated in a standard mini-K plug. Various compression glands available, such as 1/8″ NPT or (soon) M12 (to suit Subaru OEM-location up-pipe “cat-on-fire” temperature sensor location).
  • 4 bar aluminium bodied MAP sensor, with 4mm hose barb
  • New 10 Bar gauge pressure sensors, with extended operating temperature range and 100% methanol-compatible. These sensors have now superceded the previously supplied brass-bodied items – they cost a little more, but well worth it in our opinion.

Flat Foot Shifting – add a clutch switch to your Syvecs or AlcaTek ECU.

Now added to the shop – a clutch switch and cable harness that can be added to your car. The switch has an M10x1.25 thread which very conveniently screws straight in to the pedal box of Subaru Imprezas of all model years, as well as to many other cars.

Once fitted, your ECU will need to be configured to make use of it for flat foot shifting. This allows you to change gear without lifting your foot from the accelerator pedal making for much faster gear changes. And it’s fun!

Tests have been conducted with both Syvecs and AlcaTek ECUs, with complete success.

Happy shifting!

Scott Robson takes Time Attack trophy; uses Toucan and JT Innovations-supplied Lambda sensor.

Congratulations to Scott Robson for his well deserved trophy at the Knockhill round of the 2012 Time Attack series.

JT Innovations was delighted to be able to sponsor the RA Motorsport Developments team in just a small way by providing a lambda sensor and cable to go with their Syvecs Ltd engine management system.

Scott also uses a Toucan touchscreen display to change calibrations/maps during the event, as well as for monitoring and alarms of vital engine parameters.

Toucan now supports AlcaTek (original Simtek) ecu

It’s been a long time coming, but as of today Toucan now has full support for the AlcaTek (Simtek) engine management system.

AlcaTek have always been the manufacturer of the ecu originally known as a “Simtek”, but AlcaTek are now supporting their ecu directly and have today announced a major round of enhancements. Initially available for new installs only, it will not be long before the vast majority of existing “Simtek” ecus may be upgraded with the new functionality, gaining the ability to take advantage of a Toucan touchscreen.

When connected to an AlcaTek ecu, not only are the the familiar gauge and alarm functions present, plus selection of the required calibration/”map”, but Toucan now allows users to select the antilag map required, as well as providing the ability to turn antilag and/or launch control on or off directly from the touchscreen. Launch RPM can also be adjusted by the user.

The combination of an AlcaTek ecu and Toucan touchscreen is a fantastic package – why not visit Japfest on Saturday May 12th, at Castle Combe circuit, where both an AlcaTek ecu and Toucan display can be seen working on the EngineTuner stand. Tim from JT Innovations and Andy Leech from AlcaTek will be on hand to answer any questions.

Full details of the AlcaTek ecu upgrade package can be obtained from your ecu installer/mapper.

See us at Japfest 2012

We’re really pleased to be supporting our Plymouth dealer, Enginetuner, at Japfest on Saturday 12th May at Castle Combe circuit.

The Toucan touchscreen display unit will be fitted to various vehicles on the stand, and there’ll be another unit available on a separate display stand for demonstrations.

See you there!

New Toucan firmware available

New firmware is now available, along with an updated User Guide and CAL incorporating the new datastream definitions. All units shipped from today onwards will be flashed with this firmware version.

This firmware fixes some issues and adds new functionality as follows – it is recommended that you upgrade to this version.

  • In some circumstances parameters that ought to have caused an alarm were not being registered correctly in previous versions, meaning alarms might not be triggered.
  • Support for Syvecs Custom Serial data – this was added in Syvecs version V1.25
  • Adds new “Sensor Fail” alarm, making use of the new feature in Syvecs version V1.25 and onwards. Minor, moderate and critical sensor failures are shown with different colours.
  • PIN protection can now be enabled, if wished, for CAL 8 only instead of all CALs. This is useful if CAL 8 is an immobiliser or Valet mode CAL.
  • You can, if wished, suppress audible alarms when the engine is not running
  • A per-alarm/gauge temporary alarm mute, suppressing the alarm until it either clears, or until Toucan is re-powered.
  • New injector duty cycle alarm, triggered if injector duty cycle exceeds a user-set value (e.g. 85%)
  • direct access to knock or sensor failure alarms from the main gauge page alarm symbol
